Salary: $250,000 – $280,000

Campbell.HR is working with our client to place their next Chief Banking Officer. The client is seeking a dedicated Chief Banking Officer to join their team to plan, organize, and oversee the day-to-day activities and administration of the Bank. The ideal candidate is proficient in all aspects of lending including commercial, residential, and consumer, as well as driving deposit growth through commercial banking and treasury management. Responsibilities are to maintain the best interests of shareholders, customers, employees and the public in balance with growth activities of the Bank.

Position Responsibilities: 

Executive Leadership & Strategy 

  • Mission Oversight: Responsible for directing the bank’s fulfillment of its mission. 
  • Strategic Planning: Lead the development of expansion plans, developing and implementing the bank’s strategic vision to drive growth, profitability, and market share. 
  • Board Relations: Act as a liaison between the senior management team and the Board of Directors.  
  • Executive Collaboration: Partner with the executive leadership team to align banking operations with overall corporate strategy. 
  • Market Development: Identify emerging opportunities in retail, commercial, and digital banking to strengthen competitiveness. 
  • Change Leadership: Anticipate and navigate organizational challenges, including economic, regulatory, and operational shifts. 

 

Financial Performance, Management, & Compliance 

  • Profitability and Growth: Improve the bank’s profitability, earning assets, and deposits. Drive the creation of new financial products and services tailored to evolving customer needs. 
  • Loan Portfolio Management: Oversee a loan portfolio that maintained excellent credit quality with a low default rate.  
  • Risk & Compliance: Ensure adherence to banking regulations, compliance standards, and institutional risk frameworks. 
  • Risk Mitigation: Partner with risk and compliance teams to monitor credit, market, and operational risks and implement mitigation strategies 

 

Community & Shareholder Relations 

  • Community & Partnerships: Build strategic relationships with external partners and community stakeholders to expand market reach. 
  • Public and Cultural Representation: Represent the bank in public forums and supported culturally significant projects. 

 

Operational Oversight 

  • Operational Oversight: Manage day-to-day banking operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and scalability. 
  • Performance Accountability: Establish and monitor performance metrics to achieve operational and financial targets. 
  • Cybersecurity: Oversee investment and improvements in cyber defenses, including security for customer information and financial resources. 
  • Service Optimization: Oversee branch, digital, and hybrid service models to maximize efficiency and customer convenience. 
  • Business Resilience: Ensure continuity of customer services and stability while driving innovation and long-term growth. 

 

Innovation & Technology 

  • Digital Transformation: Champion technology adoption and digital innovation to enhance banking services and improve efficiency. 
  • Fintech Partnerships: Evaluate potential collaborations with fintechs and other digital providers. 
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Leverage analytics and business intelligence tools to guide growth strategies. 

 

Talent & Culture 

  • Talent Leadership: Lead, inspire, and mentor high-performing teams across banking divisions. 
  • Culture Development: Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. 
  • Succession Planning: Invest in leadership development and ensure sustainable succession pipelines. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Education & Credentials 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, economics, or related field required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.  
  • Professional certifications in banking, risk management, or compliance (e.g., CFA, CRCM, CERP) are considered an asset. 

 

Professional Experience 

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in the banking or financial services industry, with at least 7 years in senior or executive leadership roles. 
  • Proven track record of leading retail, commercial, and digital banking operations at a strategic level. 
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing growth strategies that drive profitability and market expansion. 
  • Extensive experience with risk management, regulatory compliance, and governance frameworks. 
  • Background in driving digital transformation and implementing technology solutions within banking or financial services. 
  • Experience managing multi-branch operations and leading hybrid/remote workforce models preferred. 

 

Leadership & Management Skills 

  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire, mentor, and retain top talent. 
  • Strong strategic planning and execution capabilities, with an ability to translate vision into actionable results. 
  • Skilled in fostering cross-functional collaboration across executive leadership, operations, and community stakeholders. 
  • Track record of change management and organizational transformation, particularly during times of economic or industry disruption. 

 

Technical & Industry Knowledge 

  • Deep understanding of banking products, services, and distribution channels. 
  • Expertise in financial performance management, forecasting, and portfolio growth. 
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, compliance standards, and industry best practices. 
  • Familiarity with fintech partnerships, digital banking platforms, and data analytics.

Physical Requirements 

  • Regularly required to sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch, talk or hear; occasionally required to stand.   
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.   
  • Must be able to use basic office equipment including computer and adding machine.   
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.   
  • Employee must be able to drive to various locations to meet with clients or attend networking activities.
